A little weekend round up... in pictures, of course.
Because of the crazy week of work, Friday was a day for rest. I R&R'd a little but more than anything, really had to tackle cleaning up my apartment (total wreck in a effect). Once the cleaning situation was addressed and mostly taken care of, I met up with friends who also had their Friday's off at the pool to catch up on some sun-rays and surprisingly, a few sunshowers.
Sunshowers are always great, especially when it's so hot out and this weekend for sure was H-O-T! See the monster sized KOOSH ball in the picture? My friends and I haven't been able to figure out what those are for other than lovely decor or prettyness to look at while you're chillaxin' in the cabanas. We've also come to the conclusion that the giant Koosh balls are used for cooling your footsies off when walking in the so so soooo hot sunlight... kinda like in Super Mario Bros. landing on the turtles and jumping up and down... except we don't receive the nice chime that goes off or the 1-Ups... JUST cooled off feet.
Saturday included a little brunch at Idle Rich to help celebrate my friend Alecia's hiring at Brinker. She's a graduate for Le Cordon Bleu and finally has received her first chef position! We are so so very happy for her as this has been a long time coming since she has a degree in English but then decided cooking was more for her and decided to take a different career path. I know all of our friends agree this was the best thing for her... she is an excellent cook! Congratulations Alecia!!
Other things: World Cup USA's loss in the second round. Heartbreaking. I loved the enthusiasm America gave to soccer for these weeks that the USA team was part of the tournament. I hate that soccer is only "big" in the US every four years. Whatever the feeling though, I do enjoy the unification the World Cup brings to our country. It's not like any other sport in the US, like the NFL or NBA where each person has their separate team to cheer for... nor is it even like the Olympics where there's several different events. For these few weeks, soccer unifies more people at more restaurants and bars than any other sport does in our nation- One event, one team and, as the world treats soccer, one love. I love that. Sad to see our guys lose, but they made a great run.
With that said, I met a guy yesterday from South Africa. His name was Shumba and absolutely is in LOVE with watching the World Cup. In talking to him he said he was sad to see the US team lose as he had completely enjoyed watching the men get as far as they did. He thinks we surprised a lot of people and I have to agree. Shumba has the most beautiful accent and contagious enthusiasm for not just the World Cup but for life in general. In talking with him yesterday, he would randomly burst out into song... One of his favorites from the World Cup was this one (too good not to post), enjoy!
