MOON OVER DALLAS

My boyfriend has asked me a while ago what makes Dallas DALLAS?...The Big D??  Unimpressed upon driving into the city for the first time... "The Big D", for him, just didn't live up to the name.  Sure it's not Chicago or Boston, but for Texas, Dallas is... the BIG city.  (view from the Belmont Hotel in Oak Cliff)

A promo for the city was recently created by the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The comments from this Dallas Observer article about the video are quite funny (and true), but go ahead and watch for yourself.

And now some boring Dallas stats (Wiki)
- 3rd-largest city in Texas
- 9th-largest in the US
- Economy is based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer tech, energy, healthcare and medical research
- 3rd-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the US
- Prominence arose from oil and cotton industries and its position along numerous railroads
- Rated as an Alpha world city on September 14, 2011

And now some more exciting Dallas stats (VisitDallas)
- The frozen marg machine was invented in Dallas
- With the roof enclosed, the entire Statue of Liberty could fit into the new Cowboys Stadium
- During the winter holiday season, the Galleria Dallas is home to the country's tallest indoor Christmas tree
- The Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the US
- The first convenience store, 7-11, got its start in Dallas (hello, Slurpee!)
- Movies/TV series filmed in the area: RoboCop, Born on the 4th of July, The Good Guys, Pure Country, Boys Don't Cry, Sons of Thunder, Dr. T and The Women, and more
- The Trinity River Corridor Project, when completed, will be more than 10 times the size of New York's Central Park

And now some reasons why I enjoy living in Dallas
- My family lives here
- My friends live here
- I've NOT lived here only 4 years of my life so it's basically all I know
- So many different areas of town to venture to: Greenville & the "M" Streets, Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum, Downtown, Uptown, the "Gayborhood"/Oaklawn area
- People attempting to be fashionable >>> Northpark >>> great people watching
- White Rock Lake - don't go here nearly enough but was happy when I discovered Dallas had a lake nearby
- The trolleys through uptown... the rails are a pain to drive on, but when you get a chance to ride on a trolley, for me, its just really fun - who knew Dallas had trolleys?! plus you can rent the trolleys out for your birthday and the conductors work on a volunteer basis! and they make for great pictures!
- Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers! wish the Sidekicks were still around.  ;(
- The Farmers Market side of town... on this side you get a beautiful picture of all the small buildings and the tall buildings!

On that note >>>
