Now (on occasion) I will be taking writing prompts from this site called, The One-Minute Writer, which provides a topic and only sixty seconds to write in (or under).
TODAY'S PROMPT: Write about a memorable trip you took before the age of 18.
And... GO! (this being my first time to do this, I am not expecting too much *wink, nor should you)
When I was eleven, I'm guessing, my family had a large grey conversion van that my dad drove us in all the way across the nation. We went to Buffalo and that is the only New York experience I will know to this day. Also on the way we got a flat tire during rush hour in Cincinnati which is the only recollection of that city I have. The grey van even made it across the border to Canada... and wow... that was SIXTY SECONDS.
Dang fast... DANG! Things I left out that should be noted about this trip:
- We went to visit my Aunt and Uncle who were living in Ohio
- I remember splashing in Lake Eerie.
- My older brother and I set up and played Monopoly in the big grey conversion van, which was bad because everything would shift on the board if we had to stop suddenly or slow down.
- Mom made us sandwiches in the van so we wouldn't have to stop.
- Dad freaked out during the flat because there were three kids to take care of off the side of a busy highway AND change a flat... I'm sure Mom helped keep him calm but I really don't remember, just that we got out of there.
- We went to Niagra Falls on this trip. I'd love to go back to see how big it actually is... or small because things always seem HUGE when you see them as a kid.
- Pictures of this trip remind me that I was wearing my favorite matching outfit ever as a kid and that my hair went past my butt. I think Mom bought the matching top and shorts ensemble for me at Mervyn's. It was turquoise and had flowers.
- I don't remember anything at all about Canada.
- Wow. Really? My parents drove us to Ohio (and beyond) from Texas?!! What awesome road warriors!
I think this will be interesting what random thoughts come out of my head when typing this in sixty seconds because thoughts can get rather crazy when not planned out and put together well.
