UNDER MY SKIN

Everything I'm eating right now should provide me with the benefits of being healthy. You see, the items on my plate include steamed broccoli and cauliflower and a fat slice of salmon. Though I'm eating these foods and keeping a healthy diet (other than the occasional gummy bear chow down!) it seemingly is having no healthy effects of what's been going on externally or internally with little 'ol me.

Found out when I went to the doctor the other week that I've had strep for a few months now. Can you say crazy? It's the "non-symptom" kind since I had absolutely NO clue and they had to find it by running blood tests. My skin however has had a clue... I just didn't know that it was related to this hidden strep I have.

Through this season, all this funk has made me consider beauty and appearance a lot. I, along with any girl enjoy looking and feeling pretty. Having been a collegiate athlete, I know exercise and working out is engrained in me. I pretty much love the feeling of sweating through a hot summer run or the burning lungs of a cold winter run. On business trips I enjoy utilizing as much of the hotel gym as I possibly can and vacation workouts are great because of the new and ever changing landscape. One day, I hope to be on of those running, stroller moms on Katy Trail. Whenever I run by them I'm either handing them a dropped toy that the kid threw out or thinking about what a great workout that must be!

---> So really, the big point is is that obviously I enjoy putting time into keeping in shape.

In the spring, I was looking forward to summertime and being able to be in a bikini. You figure, if you work out enough you somewhat deserve to walk around the pool looking good in your swimsuit. With all things prayed and pondered over, I am positive that through this funky skin time, the Lord has been teaching me about appearance... more specifically over how a heart that loves Him is more beautiful and desirable than anything you can ever be or want to be externally. It is such a simple truth but one that I needed to be reminded of.

During this time God has redirected my thoughts to give me a glimpse into what aspects of my life I was putting above Him. At times my confidence has been weak but for the most part, I've been pretty alright knowing that I pretty much needed to be pushed down to be rebuilt. It hasn't been the greatest, but God has definitely been speaking to me over my self-seeking wants and more importantly about His desires for my heart.
Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
And if God has a sense of humor, which I'm pretty positive that He does - I have a paisley shaped shiner on my right cheekbone just to keep reminding me of everything that He's still growing me in. Here's some recent pictures for your viewing pleasure...

1- Well, I've really quite enjoyed getting crazy with my water these days by adding cucumber and lemon slices just to give it that extra fresh taste.
2 - Do I even need to explain this? Yes, it's yet another Tater Tot picture and yes, I love her that much. When I say, "that much" I would like you to envision me reaching my arms out from here to there... yeah, like THAT much!
3 - I'll entitle this one, "Adventures in Longboarding" (sorry mom) and let you conclude the rest.
4 - Upon going to Half Price Books, I usually find myself in the old children's books section. This is the shelf on fairy tales, fables and poems. It is nice and makes me happy.

Ahhhhhhh!!! Love Xavier Rudd.

God does have a pretty funny sense of humor...look at Job. Sheesh :-} He'll do whatever it takes for us to learn what He needs and wants us to learn, whether it's a spider bite {in my mom's case, and it was on her top lip} or 3rd degree burns on {in my case, because I thought I was too cool to put sunscreen on at the age of 13, and those were on my face too}.
