“So this is Christmas...” sang through the go-cart’s speakers yesterday. In most cases I would be completely cheerful and smiley, probably sing a few lyrics and drum my mittens on the steering wheel. Strangely enough, this was not me yesterday. It’s as if I was listening to the song and my eyes grew larger, creating furrows above my browline and just kind of thinking, ‘Alright, so this is Christmas...'
I’m absolutely in love with this holiday, don’t get me wrong... I mean, I did start listening to holiday music back in October. I actually listen year round, or just whenever I’m in that sort of mood. Throughout the year I always keep Mariah Carey’s, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on my iPod. I love when this song surprises me in the shuffle while running the Katy Trail. I’ll pass people thinking, ‘They have no clue that I’m running to a Christmas song in July!’ This absolutely cracks me up inside because I know that they’re pouring sweat droplets out to Tool or some lame techno beats and I’m just running along to Mariah singing, “Make my wish come truuuuue… Baby all I want for Christmas is... Yoooouu—!” Honestly, I think they’d think I was weird if they really knew.
So the best thing that could have happened yesterday was one of my best friends, Alecia texted and said the girls were going to meet at Casey’s for dinner. Perfect, I thought, because yesterday all I needed was to unpack some news and I knew they would be there to hear me go on, and on and on.
Casey had an amazing fire going and Alecia (who has an internship for Brinker) had brought over tons of good food. Dinner was prepared and I began the unpacking process. They listened as I knew they would and I went on still shocked, still glazed over, all the while knowing that it’s better to know then to not.
Still am waiting for a follow up to tie some loose ends together. Thankful for good friends that will listen when sometimes you don’t even have the words to explain everything and how it affects you.
SIGNED: Slow down, enjoy today, whatever it may bring or what surprising news you find out, make due, seek hope, see there is good around everywhere knowing you are blessed.
